The box should be hung in a quiet, somewhat protected location, so not in direct sun or in the direction of rain, with a clear flying route for the bird. The autumn is the best time to clean the nesting box.

Put up a new nest box now. Birds will check them out for next spring's nest site, or they may use them beforehand as a roosting spot during the cold months.
